welcome to
Colorful Colorado
While Colorado may be known for hiking trails, mountain views, and outdoorsy adventures, we firmly believe conference survival also depends on snacks, caffeine, and knowing where to get a good meal after a long day of conquering ethical dilemmas. To support your week of professional development, we’ve included an aggressively thorough list of local restaurants, coffee shops, bars, brunch spots, and general sources of joy — all conveniently organized by distance from campus (best viewed on a computer to see all the details).

**At the Stanley Marketplace - 2501 N. Dallas St. Aurora, Colorado 80010
Denver and Aurora offer plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs, explore the city, and briefly remember there’s a world outside the conference center. Whether you want a quick walk between sessions, a good museum, live music, local history, a Nuggets game, shopping, art, nature, or simply an excuse to continue networking over cocktails, we’ve pulled together a list of nearby activities to help you make the most of your time in Colorado. Consider it your professionally curated guide to avoiding sitting in your hotel room answering emails all evening.

Bluff Lake Nature Center is a nonprofit agency that owns and manages a unique urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom in Denver. The refuge is home to an abundance of animals and native plants which thrive in a variety of habitats. Bluff Lake is Denver’s largest open space managed as native habitat, and Denver’s only nonprofit nature center. We rely solely on community support.
Tens of thousands of visitors come to Bluff Lake each year to enjoy a few moments of solace and connection to nature.

Stanley Aviation opened as a manufacturing facility in 1954. The plant soon became the largest employer in Aurora. Today, that same space is home to Stanley Marketplace — a vibrant collective of 50+ locally owned businesses offering everything from food and drink to shopping, fitness, beauty, creative studios, and family-friendly fun.

Colorado Ballet is one of the region’s premier performing arts organizations, offering a mix of beloved classical productions and contemporary performances throughout the year. From large-scale productions like The Nutcracker to innovative modern works, performances combine world-class dancers, striking choreography, and impressive live music in Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Whether you are a longtime ballet enthusiast or simply looking for a uniquely Colorado evening activity that doesn’t involve hiking boots, the Colorado Ballet offers a memorable way to experience the city’s arts and culture scene.

Votes and Dreams, an inspiring exhibition at the Center for Colorado Women’s History, highlights the struggles and triumphs of Colorado’s women activists and leaders who organized at the ballot box and beyond to implement their vision for a better future.

From soaring mountains and scorching deserts to sprawling forests and splendid beaches, Latin America is a vast place. As a concept, it tries to contain cultures and landscapes with millennia of differing histories under one name. Works that artists from Latin America created during the 20th and current 21st century showcase a range of practices as complex as the places they call home. While previous exhibitions have centered around a single art movement, such as Surrealism or Abstraction, A Century of Art in Latin America will offer a broader and more inclusive exploration of the rich and varied artistic trends across the region.

Catch a Denver Nuggets game at Ball Arena and experience Denver’s unofficial civic religion: basketball at altitude. Whether you follow the NBA closely or just enjoy a loud arena, overpriced snacks, and watching Nikola Jokić casually do things that seem mathematically improbable, it’s a fun way to spend an evening in the city.

Colorado women like Margaret were some of the first women voters in the country. As a voter with progressive views on equality, Margaret joined the fight for national suffrage.
In 1914 suffrage leaders urged her to run for U.S. Senate. A woman had never entered the Senate, so Margaret’s campaign was big news. Headlines announcing “Mrs. Brown for Congress” flooded newspapers across the country.
“If I do go to the Senate, I shall be specifically interested in all matters relating to women and children. In general, I shall stand for the human side of every question.” – Margaret Brown, 1914

Dr. Justina Laurena Ford (1871–1952) was Colorado’s first licensed African American female physician and a beloved community healer who practiced medicine from her home in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood for over 50 years. Known affectionately as “The Lady Doctor,” she delivered nearly 7,000 babies and served a diverse clientele including African Americans, immigrants, and poor families who were often turned away elsewhere. Dr. Ford’s legacy of resilience and compassion continues to inspire, and her historic home now serves as site of our museum.
The Black American West Museum & Heritage Center promotes an understanding of the role African Americans played in the settlement and development of the western United States through its collections, programs, and exhibits.
